1960's Vox Tornado model V247 electric guitar in excellent condition and in good working order. This vintage archtop was produced by Eko in Italy for Vox and exclusively offered in North America by Vox's distributor Thomas Organ. The Tornado was only offered from 1965-67 and the tone is unmistakably Vox, with a jangle and snap that screams "British Invasion" balanced by the hollowbody construction that adds some midrange and low end heft to the single coil pickup. More robust than a Fender single coil in many respects, this Tornado has a sound all its own with a percussive quality and very round sounding single notes. The neck has a medium C shaped profile that borders on the more slender side of things with a bound rosewood fretboard and pearl dot inlay. The frets are very clean with great crowns and only light wear beneath the plain strings frets from frets 1-4. The action is low and consistent with a straight neck that plays cleanly in all positions with no buzzing. The instrument has a 24 3/4" scale with a zero fret and 1 5/8" nut width. The headstock has a unique shape that was designed to simulate the swirl of a tornado, with new Kluson tuners that turn very smoothly.
On the body, the guitar retains all of its original hardware including the pickguard, pickup ring, smooth chrome knobs and floating rosewood bridge. The top has a nice, consistent arch with no caving or sinking and the pickup sits nice and close to the strings. The original three-tone sunburst finish is vibrant and unfaded with the heavy finish checking in the poly finish seen on virtually every Italian-made Vox guitar.
The original hardshell case is included.
