Hey Gang! Here's something you don't see everyday....True C.F. Martin History. A what we believe is a 1964 potentially 1963 Martin D-12-20 Prototype "R+D" Research and Development Model. Made in Nazareth, PA - It has the stamp for the D-12-20 inside on the heel, but no serial number to officially date the instrument. Overall condition is good, but there have been some bumps and bruises in it's lifetime. No cracks on the neck or back and sides, and frets look to be in great shape. We did receive it with the neck that had come off the joint almost entirely. It peeled up some small portion of the Sitka spruce top (shown in photos), but has since been properly set for stability and easy playability. Bridge, saddle, tuners (possibly Repro), string pins, and nut all appear to be original to the instrument. We are rather amazed by the sound. We know Guild was the leader in 12-strings those days, but it is clear to us now, Martin made a very special guitar when they introduced the D-12-20. If you have any questions or need additional photos, please feel free to contact us. Comes with a non-original hard shell case. This is a piece of Martin history, and we are so happy to offer it here, not only for preservation, but for the incredible tonality and craftsmanship the Martin company has always been known for.
